“Giggle Water” 1965 - 1975
2023
This project was another favourite of mine, the final of three for my 20th Century Fashion History class. It was a real challenge, but I learnt a huge amount and had a lot of fun, especially with the research – I ended up with more material than I could use! My inspiration came from the vibrant ‘Flower Power’ movement and the colourful world of the Hippies. I aimed to infuse my journal pages with the same exciting, whimsical vibe that defined the hippie lifestyle.
I was particularly drawn to the era's bold makeup and eclectic accessorising, with its frequent clashes of fabrics and prints. For a unique twist, I chose to present my final collection designs over croquis from the covers of paper patterns popular at the time. This project was a delightful exploration of an iconic cultural movement, blending historical research with design. I loved making it!
